A translation agency for sworn translations has your document translated by someone listed in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). Only such a translator may attach a sworn statement, and that statement is what a Dutch authority looks for. The Bureau Wbtv register shows who is listed for each language.

If the IND or your municipality asks for a sworn translation, you first want to know what that authority expects: which language, and whether an apostille is needed. Sometimes several documents belong together. We work that out with you before the translator starts.
Which translation does the IND require?
The IND accepts documents in Dutch, English, French or German. A document in another language has to be translated into one of those. If it is translated in the Netherlands, the translator must have been sworn in by a Dutch court; you find such translators in the Rbtv.

How do you check that a translator is sworn?
A sworn translator is listed in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv), which Bureau Wbtv maintains. On the Bureau Wbtv website you search by name or language and see which languages the translator is sworn for.

Does a certificate need an apostille within the EU?
For civil-status records such as a birth or marriage certificate, Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 applies between EU member states: no apostille is needed. For countries outside the EU, it depends on the country whether an apostille or legalisation is required.

What does a sworn translation cost?
A sworn translation costs from €41 excl. VAT per page for Dutch into English or French. For other language pairs the rate is from €61 excl. VAT per page. These prices include the sworn statement, the official stamp and the translator's signature. A digital copy by e-mail (€9.95) and registered shipping (€9.95, or free from €299) are optional add-ons you can choose. No hidden costs.

How much does a translation agency charge?
With us a sworn translation costs from €41 excl. VAT for the first page from Dutch into English or French, or the other way round. For other languages it is from €61. Options are extra: a digital copy €9.95, an apostille €99 and shipping €9.95, free from €299.
Which translation agencies have sworn translators?
Any agency can work with sworn translators, as long as they are listed in the Rbtv. The register is public: on the Bureau Wbtv website you search by name or language. We only have your document translated by a translator listed there for your language.
Where can I have documents translated?
Here, online. Upload a scan or photo and choose the language; the translation is normally ready in 5 to 7 working days. With urgent service it takes 2 to 3 working days for a 50% surcharge (minimum €55), and that applies to all documents and languages. When an authority asks for a sworn translation, a translation tool will not do.
Which language does the IND accept?
The IND accepts documents in Dutch, English, French or German. If your document is in another language, such as Somali or Dari, you have it translated into one of those four. If that happens in the Netherlands, the translator must have been sworn in by a Dutch court. That is what the IND states on its website.
Is there a sworn translator for every language?
Not every language has the same number of translators in the Rbtv. If few are available for your language, we tell you before you order. For Uzbek, Azerbaijani, Latvian, Lithuanian and Indonesian you can order online from 4 pages; for 1 to 3 pages you request a quote.
